Accidents on Old Courthouse Road - Accidents 2009

April 2009 The driver was coming from the creek towards the 4-way stop sign and saw a deer (or so he says) and swerved to avoid it.  He was travelling at excessive speed (probably 60mph or so) so when he swerved, he went over the double yellow lines, drove down the mailbox across the street from my house (9425 OCR I think?), swiped a tree over there, then crossed back over the yellow lines and hit a tree in my neighbor's lawn at 9432 OCR.  Incredible.  Both driver and passenger walked away from the accident, but were arrested.  We *think* the driver was intoxicated. 20 March 2009 Man travelling towards Tyson's Corner skided, over compensated and landed on the front yard of one of the neighbors on the opposite side of the street.

Accidents 2007-2008

From August 2007 to August 2008, there were 13 accidents on Old Courthouse Road, 11 in Fairfax County and 2 in Town of Vienna, here are some of the pictures contributed by homeowners with descriptions and locations.

Accidents by Intersection:

Old Courthouse Road & Arabian Ave = 1

Old Courthouse Road & Besley Rd = 1

Old Courthouse Road & Creek Crossing = 2

Old Courthouse Road & Drewlaine Dr = 1

Old Courthouse Road & Pine Valley Dr = 4

Old Courthouse Road & Westwood Dr = 2

Old Courthouse Road & Westbriar Dr = 2

The latest accident was on 17 September 2008 which occurred on Old Courthouse Road and Westwood Dr. a few minutes before school dismissal.   As you can see, one car flipped and the van was severely damaged.  All passengers including 2 children were taken to the nearby hospital.  If this accident happened 5 minutes later, it could have been devastating, as the corner where the car flipped is used by children to wait to cross the street as well as school bus pick up and drop off.

The stretch of the road coming from Gosnell  to Westbriar has been the scene of many accidents over the past years.  Because of the steepness and sharp curvature of the hill, many tend to underestimate it.  This particular accident is due to cars speeding going down the hill on a slick icy surface then, loosing control and colliding with another vehicle.  Contributed by Allan R, Old Courthouse Road.

Feb 2008, The driver of the other car was trying to turn on Pine Valley from Old Courthouse coming from Gosnell at approximately 3:00 in the morning.  My car was parked on Pine Valley.  He approached the turn too fast and lost control.  He hit my car and left it on the curb.  Contributed by Bill K, Pine Valley Dr.

Summer 2008, The pictures below were provided to us the President of Wolf Trap Trails Home Owner’s Association.  It occurred in front of her home on Old Courthouse Road before the intersection of Beulah, Beulah, Trap and OCR.  The driver fell asleep behind the wheel and hit Morgan’s parked truck, knocking it down the hill into a lawn where it stopped on a tree.  Both vehicles were totaled.
